BaCC Week 4: The Other Babbling Family
Nate Babbling has been a bit worried about his Servo mate, Anna. She's become quite withdrawn lately, spending hours playing with the little toy robot that Teddy gave to her a while ago.
She seemed quite upset when she figured out that the toy robot wasn't actually self aware. Now she lets it roam around the carpet, looking at it wistfully as it fails to overcome a crinkle in the fabric.

Nate thinks he knows what's bothering Anna, and addresses the issue over dinner. (Not that Anna ever eats anything, but she likes to keep Nate company while he does)

Nate: "It's the whoole baby thing, isn't it deaarrr?"

Nate: "Don't woorrry, I'm heeerrre forr you."
Anna: *sigh*

Teddy donated his old Robotics Station to Anna, in the hope it would be a good distraction. Nate thinks it distracts her a bit too much though, as she now hardly does anything else but tinker around with robots, chips and wiring. She won't even stop for a little bit to have some fun in the snow. He's got a sneaking suspicion that she's trying to create artificial intelligence like herself, but she's not making a lot of headway with her project.

Nate's decided to work on a portrait of Anna. Hopefully it will cheer her up a bit. He's even included her little toy robot.

Yet another failure for Anna as she tries to give her little toy robot a thinking brain. All it does is make it try to choke her, which doesn't tell of great intelligence, seeing as Servos don't have to breathe.

It seems to be the last straw for Anna. As soon as Nate left the house for a family visit at Teddy's, she started running amok.

Nate found her like this when he got home, outside in the backyard, knee-deep in the snow.

At a loss as to what to do, he tried to open up the hatch in her back to see how bad the damage was. Unfortunately, some wires seem to have gotten crossed while Anna was running amok...

The resulting shock nearly killed Nate. Luckily, the only victims of the electrocution were his clothes and hair.

He just about had enough strength to bring Anna back inside, and then drag himself upstairs and into bed.

There's only one person he knows that could help getting Anna back on her feet: his brother's wife.

Nate: "Just cooome as quick as you caaan Rrrrose. I rreaally don't know whaat to doo."

Rose was over as quick as a flash when she heard about Anna's malfunctioning, and set to work trying to repair the damage in the circuitry.

Rose: "There, I think that's done it. She was all tangled up inside, a real mess. I think regular check-ups wouldn't be a bad idea from now on though..."

Anna: *whhiiiirrrrrrr beep boop TING* "What... what happened? Did someone power Anna down?"
Rose: "There ya go Nate, good as new!"

Anna: "All of a sudden everything went dark, and... Ufh!"
Nate: *BEARHUG!*

Nate: "Thank you soo much Rrrooose. I doon't know how I'll everrr be aaable to rrrepaay yoou."
Rose: "You were thinking of opening that  bar, weren't you? Free drinks and we'll forget about it."
Nate: "Aaas many as yoou liiiike."

The shock of her adventure has jolted Anna out of the dip she was in, even if she does occasionally go all quiet whenever she sees one of the town's kids running along the sidewalk in front of the house.
Nate's just happy to have her back, though the whole episode has forcefully reminded him of the fact that Anna simply isn't, and will never be, fully Simmish...

Oooh, this update was a bit of a downer one, wasn't it? Sorry about that. :) Life isn't all sunshine and roses though, not even for Sims...

No there isn't always sunshine and roses...poor Anna. I think its a shame servos can do everything except have children.
Anna needs a kitten :) a fluffy fuzzball with razor-sharp claws!

I loved this 'episode' even though it was sad.

Robots plus kitten fur? Can you imagine the amount of static electricity in the house? :D

They'll get a kidlet at some point... but career comes first at the moment.

Poor Anna. I think they should adopt, they'd make lovely parents. If Nate opens a bar doesn't that give you one CAS sim? Could you trade that in for an adoption?

Also yay, Rose to the rescue!

Liam and Kate Button have already snagged up all available CAS Sim places for the time being. I think I'll let them adopt eventually, but not quite yet. Nate still has a business emporium to establish, and all that :)

Poor Anna :( I second pinkthstles, a kitten might occupy her a bit, even though it won't replace a real kid :( I stil say robotic babies are the way to go!

So sad ... but this seems like a great story! I'll have to go back to read it from the start.

Poor Anna! I definitely think they need to adopt!

Not a downer at all! I'm glad Nate survived that huge electrical shock, I was a little worried there.

So was I, his moods were pretty low. I don't know if zombies can die from electrocution (or anything else), but I'm not quite ready to find out for Nate yet :)

I'm glad Anna came out of her rut, and in the end the two of them have a long life ahead of them to do the adoption thing.

That they do. Speaking of long life, I'm thinking of going back to a shorter lifespan for my Sims when the first generation has grown into elders, but I'm not sure... How do you find the age span in Forest Heights?

Funnily, I was wondering if I should have had a longer lifespan hack! I've just started week five and now all my founders (well, aside from Frank Snr) are elders which I've found pretty sad.

But that being said, it's taken this long for the few that have jobs to be near the top of the career ladder. I think when you consider that reaching the top of a career is a main method for progress in the settlement, if your sims have a longer life span in which to do it, progress might happen unrealistically fast.

As I also have inTeen (which means for me my teens have jumped into the adult career tracks half way through the teen life stage) and one sim isn't even an adult and is on level 6 of the law career already. I'm going to use the job stopinator to make sure she doesn't get promoted again before she's an adult as I want to keep the career levels at least vaguely realistic (well, as much as you can in the sims)!

I use harder jobs in combination with Edukashun iz Gud (a mod that will give your Sims a much harder time progressing in a career if they haven't gone to University), so the job progress has slowed down considerably. I don't think my hood is progressing unrealistically fast, so I guess I'll leave it at that. I did age up my settlers a little bit, as they weren't all pipsqueaks fresh out of college/highschool. They'll probably all be elders by week 6 or 7.

I'm just afraid of rushing through it, I need some time to get attached to my Simmies and all :)
