Riverside Hollow: Year Two
Thought I'd do a quick overview post for what the neighbourhood looks like nowadays :)

The little farm you can see in the lower right corner is where Myra Greengrass and her family have finally settled. The soil's much better there than in the foresty area where the rest of the settlers live, but it does get a bit lonely out there.

The little forest meadow in which the rest of the settlers live. From left to right and top to bottom: The Buttons (who took over the Greengrass house when Myra and the gang moved out), Nate & Anna Babbling, Teddy & Rose Babbling. The white house with shed in the back is the Picklethorpe's, next to that the Fenwick residence (which is ramshackle as Felix prefers saving up the town funds rather than building a new house) and the old Lovelace place, where Davin Greengrass now lives.

Riverside Hollow has finally gotten its first community lots as well! Warning: lots of puns ahead. From left to right:

- Sew Far Sew Good, Violet Picklethorpe's future sewing shop (which hasn't actually been built yet, she's been too busy with other stuff).
- Greengrass Groceries, a grocery store owned by Cordelia Greengrass, where Sims can now buy the produce that the Greengrass family grows.
- The Four Corners, Nate Babbling's bar which turned out to be more of a pub. It's got a poker table upstairs and a podium with instruments on the ground floor, unlocking Music as a career for the town.
- Riverside Elementary, the small schoolhouse where Myra Greengrass teaches the village kids. The teens go to school there for the time being as well. It's a city-owned community lot, which has no real purpose aside from me having something to point at and go 'that's where my kids go to school'.
The Pottery Barn, Lily Fenwick's pottery shop. It's an actual barn where she sells her pots and vases.

Stats for Riverside Hollow, Year Two:

Households: 6

Playable Sims: 22

Sim-Owned Businesses: 4

City-Owned Businesses: 1

Sim Multiplier: 2

Population: 44

Riverside Hollow (yay for a name, by the way!) is looking great! It's great to see that Myra finally got to move out to the plain like she wanted! :)

Thank you! :) I quite like how rural it looks right now. Myra's little farm is one of my favourite spots in the hood right now ^^

The town(or should I call it village?)looks great so far - it's developing so well :) It will be nice to see how its story goes on.

Thank you :) It's definitely only a village at the moment... well, technically it's just a street :P

Thanks very much! I'm sort of planning the layout of the city once it gets bigger in my head, so eventually it'll end up looking quite different, I think :)

I don't know if it interests you at all, but Inge Jones has mods that allow you to actually run a school.

Otherwise: very pretty. Did you ever mention what neighborhood terrain you're using?

Yeah I know Inge's mods, but I haven't actually tried running my own school yet. I'm not sure I'd want to micromanage all of that either, though :)

The terrain is one I made myself, it's up for download on MTS if you're interested: http://www.modthesims.info/d/440974

I don't micromanage it much: set-up, and after that, add/remove pupils as necessary. I love that it ensures that all similar-aged sims know each other. Although in my first big neighborhood, I had it actually split in 3: one for kids, one for teens, and one for both but private (so, all posh, etc. Only for the rich, and the very very talented)

Riverside Hollow is a fantastic name.
The hood is so beautiful and I really like reading about your families.
Your tweaks in the BACC rules are fantastic! I might try them out some day...
Where did you get your sims' skintones? They're pretty.

Thanks so much :) I spent aaages trying to get a name so glad people like it ^^

The rules are being playtested and updated right now, so if you want to give it a go it might be a good idea to check out the BaCC community we've set up: http://buildacity.livejournal.com

My skintones are by Leh (and they are so very pretty, my favourite set by far) You can get them at her LJ: http://lehsims.livejournal.com/

Oh gosh. You are so good at making cute little buildings. And at making full fledged characters, and sense of small town community. I'm just catching up now. But I love this.

I can't take all the building credit for myself, as some of the community lots were downloaded rather than built from scratch.
Glad you're enjoying the BaCC though :)

I love seeing how the community is growing, I have this tendency to just stare at my neighbourhood screen ;)

Looking at this post made me wonder about the SM though, when you have a total of 5 community lots I though the SM goes up by one, which would make yours 3 right? That was what I was going on, or is it when you reach five City-Owned community lots only?

Also, as I'm asking questions, what are your thoughts on the new families coming to the area? Did you randomise the Button family, or just make a family that made sense to you? That's what I did with the Farmer family but it only just occurred to me that perhaps they should have been randomised like the founding families.

/end long rambling questions.

I'm not counting the city-owned business in the SM. What you do with them is up to you :)

I randomised the Button family, but again, if you're happier creating a family that makes 'sense' to you, by all means go for it. The rules aren't meant to be rigidly enforced, but to provide a framework in which you can have fun playing.

It makes much more sense not to include them, I guess that's why I sought clarification, I was confused as why I suddenly had a population of 93 in week 10. Perhaps it's worth clarifying for people like me ;)

I really like the system of randomising, especially the challenge of creating a story for the sims that result. It's also more realistic that a new family wouldn't necessarily have a particular role to just slot in to :)

Thank you, and I'm definitely still having a blast with this :D

What neighborhood camera do you use to get all of those great shots of the sky? None of the ones I've been able to find pitch that far without zooming out to absurd levels.

Free camera mode in neighbourhood view is your friend for that one. You can press tab and then use the normal controls to move around all over the place. Lowering the camera is a great way to get those sky shots :)
