Strangely Pleasant
[livejournal.com profile] meetme2theriver made me a merged Pleasantview and Strangetown hood, because those are my two favourite premades, and the ones I definitely enjoy playing most. I didn't really give Strangetown a makeover in the Megahood, but I did here, as I really want to flesh out those two hoods. I've already got Pleasantview just the way I want it, but Strangetown needed some extra work.

I didn't want to post this at first, as I already have the Megahood and maybe people wouldn't want to see spam about another merged hood as it'd get confusing...  But then I went, stop being an idiot, this is YOUR journal and you can put in what you pretty damn well please. And the people that read it aren't idiots and can just skip non-Megahood updates if they want to. *sheepish*

As you can see, I've added in a few bits and bobs, but not so much that the 'remote desert town' feel is broken. The road where Olive and Ophelia's house was on has been extended a little bit, and I've moved their home to be closer to the town center, though I might park it right up the road where the radio antenna is now in the future.
Curious Hill (as I call it in my head, because I'm weird) has been expanded a little bit, and an observatory has been added, as well as a watertank that supplies the town. Now the Curious brothers have got an extra reason to be up there, aside from trying to get closer to the stars. I might eventualy convert it to a full blown research center.
I've added some streets on the other side of the highway that will form the town center eventually, with some shops and things. I copied the little yellow house that will always be Ajay's house to me (cause I plunk in him there every single time I play Strangetown) so the road looks at least slightly less abandoned.
The government facility lies closer to the military base, Fort Strangetown, in my current hood than it is seen here. I quickly slapped together a lot imposter (there's nothing to do there, just bare walls, though I might fiddle around with it later) that is based on the military bases in TS3. Some barracks were added and the Grunts now live on the military terrain itself, close to the General's workplace.
The Beaker residence is in the same spot it's always been, but part of the edge of the crater has caved in a bit, so they're now almost on the same level as the crashsite.

Some closeups of a few areas:

Military base and barracks.

The Beaker house with the crashed spaceship behind it. I like how it sort of looks like there used to be more road there, but the crash has blown it up.

The Smiths now live at the bottom of the street the Curiouses live on. The green empty lot will be where the Singles will move in.

Party Time!

A merged hood wouldn't be the same without a getting-to-know-your-neighbours party. I let the newly weds Cassandra and Don host it, as I had already played the Goths for a day and they'd moved out and were sat in the simbin, and actually had funds to decorate a small party lot.

It's a bit of a garden party, but having it in a house would just result into everyone trying to socialise in the hallway or bathroom.

Vidcund thinks Olive is HAWT!

Oh damn, I'm sorry Tank. Default facemasks didn't agree with you. I like Johnny  laughing his head off and Tank being all 'what did you do to me?!'

Angela wasn't very social at the party. She was too busy crying over her parents fighting with Lillith to really enter into the party spirit. I also used the party to make over everyone at once, so I didn't have to go house by house to do it. That's why people will change outfits during the pics.

Vidcund and Loki have got serious hate-ons for eachother. Notice Jenny and PT being all cute behind them. ^^

Little buck is SHOCKED and APPALLED! He was running around crying all the time because people kept fighting :( Such a tender little soul.

So I had Ripp hug him to cheer him up. General Buzz finds this hilarious. Hugs are for weaklings!

Daniel isn't pleased with Angela's choice of boyfriends.

Daniel: 'Stop heartfarting over my daughter right this minute, young man!'

Ripp trying to chat up Lillith? I think he was just admiring her, but I think that'd be a pretty sweet couple.

Loki owns you all at Limbo!

Angela thinks Tank is a losseeerrrrr. Strange, in the Megahood she and her sister are all over him.

Olive being fierce! The outfit is a sign of things to come (if I can find a damn grand vampyre this time). Not everyone got the same makeover as in the Megahood, though I kept a few. I'm rather fond of how Lola Curious turned out here.

Beau Broke just sat around bopping along to the music, and occasionally being cuddled by random people. He seemed to enjoy it a lot.

John and Jennifer are one of those couples that are attached to the hip. Literally. I changed Jennifer's makeover a gazillion times and I'm still not happy with it. Grrr.

Ajay and Lola got really friendly without any of my instigation. I was most pleased.

Herb and Chloe got real friendly, too. I was less than pleased.

So was Coral. Hehe, oops.

Loki and Circe being precious. These two are so awesome.

Obligatory FIGHTS! pic.

This is Don Lothario scoping the room, because I was curious as to who he would fancy. Apparently he really likes twins: Nina & Dina and  Lola & Chloe. He has no chemistry with Cassandra at all, not even one flimsy little bolt.

One would think he'd like her, seeing how flexible she is.

I've got a feeling I'm really going to like Olive.

PT gave the General this awesome dirty look. That's Ripp spraying food all down his dad's back, by the way.

I had Don be the DJ to keep him out of trouble, but he got off to watch Vidcund and Loki fight, and Darren nicked his place. First thing of order for Don? Getting frisky with one of the Calienta sisters, of course.

Cassandra: 'I'm going to sock that hussy one so hard she won't know if it's bum or breakfast time.'

I really like the idea of these two becoming friends :)

Johnny and Ophelia were inseperable the entire party long. I don't think they interacted much with anyone else.

Unexpected first kiss tingling made me frantically search for my first ACR couple... But it was just Pascal trying to kiss Circe.

Wait, what? Pascal and CIRCE? Wasn't it Vidcund who is supposed to be all crushy on her? What the heck does Pascal see in her? And why hasn't Loki killed his ass yet? I'm putting it down to pregnancy hormones and being drunk.

Of course, Circe doesn't want any of that. Look at Loki being all smug, too.

Oh now you're just trying to taunt him. Pascal didn't seem too upset about it all, anyway.

Ophelia took pity on Tank, who had been pretty much either ignored or poked so far.

I think she's starting to see WHY he keeps getting ignored or poked. :D

Mortimer kicking the cheese out of Don. He wasn't impressed with Don cheating on Cassie (it was just a DANCE people! Sheesh! They weren't making out or anything!), and now both he and Alexander hate him.

Nina: 'RIGHT! Party's over people! Those gazillion plates y'all left around are going to stink up the place real soon and we don't want any accidental deaths by flies, okay? MOVE MOVE MOVE!'

That military base looks awesome! I really love what you've done to Strangetown. It looks more homey now.

Another fantastic party! :D

Thank you ^^ I'm rather pleased with it myself, so it means a lot to me that others like it too :)

I was glad I could get the entire hood together this time instead of just the singles/teens/kids. Smaller hoods are so much easier to manage.

I really like what you've done in Strangetown, and love the Fort, it's exactly what I need in my game!

On a side note I am utterly impressed by your patience to makeover not only one megahood, but another merged hood as well :D

If you'd like that lot, I can package it up for you. As I said, there's nothing really inside, but it looks fancy from the neighborhood view and you can always decorate it :)

This merged hood was a breeze to make over after the Megahood. Only 2 hoods? Pfssh! That's nothing :D

That would be so utterly awesome, yours looks wonderful and will be just perfect :D Out of interest did you use HoodReplace to add the extra roads, I've been wanting to try it but have been concerned about blowing up my game lol!

I have a full merged hood that I place into my game every so often to makeover lots and sims. I only have one family left in Riverblossom Hills...of course this would be more impressive if I hadn't started said makeovers in Riverblossom Hills months ago.

Here ya go, I've packaged it and cleaned it with the Clean Installer: http://www.mediafire.com/?gw95uc22746x9lr
Have fun with it, and would love to see what you do with it :)

I did use HoodReplace to add in the roads, I absolutely love it and have never had any problems with it. All it does is simply copy the terrain from one hood to another. The worst that can happen is that the terrain looks a bit wonky, and you have to re-place (not replace, just pick em up and put em down again) the lots one by one to fit them on the new roads. I use it all the time. If you're a bit uncomfortable about it, make a fresh hood, and copy the original hood you want to replace to it. In case anything goes wrong, you can then just replace the changed terrain with your backup. I've got backups of all my main hoods (including decorations).

Ahw only one family left? You can't just leave them without makeovers, they'll be the laughing stock of the neighborhood :)

Did I mention thank you? Because you are seriously awesome :D

And thank you for the advice on HoodReplace, I'm running off to download it now so I can make a spiffy new Military area for Strangetown (although I doubt General Buzz would approve of the word spiffy!)

Thank so much you for all your help! I played around with HoodReplace and my game didn't implode :D Although unfortunately I have an older version of simcity4 which doesn't load the Strangetown terrain (the MTS thread says the terrain was made with the later Rush Hour version and that's the reason behind it).

The rest of my neighbourhoods are at the mercy of my new road giving powers though ;)

Ooh, and the Fort looks awesome in my game!

If you draw up a little map of what changes you want done to Strangetown, I can adjust the terrain for you and send you the SC4 file, if you like. It doesn't take very long to add some roads and things.

My sims are officially erecting a statue in your honour, you are so kind and helpful!

Honestly, if you don't mind sharing it, what you've done with the terrain is fabulous.

Thank you again for everything!

Ahw *blush* ^^
It's really no bother, all I'm doing is sharing some stuff I already had anyway :) Here's the SC4 file: http://www.mediafire.com/?03fra7axix500do

I did some work with the modifyneighborhoodterrain cheat in the game itself as well though. I'm not sure the hill is large enough to house the Curious home as it is, it might have to be expanded a little bit. I also straigthened out the roads of the little town center, and lowered the area where the Beaker house sits. Mostly cosmetic tweaks, but that's why the terrain won't look exactly the same as the one you're getting.

Still, my sims and I are very grateful :D

I was so happy when they brought in the modifyneighborhoodterrain cheat, I use it almost as much as I use to use motherlode when I first played.

Thank you again, I'm going to have lots of fun playing around with Strangetown's new layout tomorrow :D

Awesome military base.

*snicker* Olive. She's looking to be a vampire, hmm? I think my Pleasantly Strange Olive will become a witchy woman.

Pascal and Circe!? And Loki just nodding about it? Ok, that just reinforces my thought that the Beakers are swingers. You can't tell me Nervous was added to their household JUST for the scientific experiments (yeah, I've paired him off with Nervous then had family drama when Circe gets pregnant and tells Loki he has to get rid of his "love pet").

Actually, when I went in to play the Curiouses today, I checked their ACR token settings and ALL of them consider Circe 'The One'. Yep, that's Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo, all crushing on the evil scientist's wife. This will not end well :p

I interpreted Loki's behaviour more as a 'Hah, as if my ladylove would even CONSIDER spitting on you if you were on fire.' He's supremely confident on the subject of Circe's romantic interests. Maybe that'd make them great swingers though, as they're not likely to be broken up because of jealousy. ^^
And that's a very disturbing idea about the Beakers and Nervous *shudders*

i had a lot of fun readin this!

I recently for the first time downloaded a merged hood from somewhere, which has Pleasantview, Strangetown and the one neighborhood that cane with seasons, and have started playing around with it a bit.

This combination, just Pleasantview and Strangetown looks interesting too, and i hope to see more posts about what the sims in your neighborhood are doing.

I also have a question: How did you get all those sims to actually come to the party? is there a trick or hack to help with that?

[identity profile] nepheris.livejournal.com on August 12th, 2010 01:55 pm (UTC)
Great to hear you had fun :) I think the neighborhood name you're looking for is Riverblossom Hills.

You can use a hack that has an option to teleport sims, such as the simblender (found at Simbology here: http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?board=7.0 )and teleport them in one by one. Another option is to use the cheat boolprop testingcheatsenabled true, then shift-click on the mailbox. Select the option neighborhood --> invite all neighbors, and they'll all come up to trample your lawn. Don't forget to greet them though, or they won't interact and will walk off after a while. This only works for neighbors that have a house, and not for families who are still in the simbin.

Also make sure your system can handle so many sims on one lot, or the game might crash when you invite everyone.

Thanks for the tips! i ended up using the simblender( i really like that tree more and more every time i use it!) and only summoning some people, since my system is not that fast, and i do not want to risk it crashing by using the boolprop mailbox trick and summoning too many sims at once.

and yes, i was looking for Riverblossom hills. thanks. my game is in dutch, and while i know most names in English, i do not know all of them.

What is it called in Dutch, out of curiosity? I only ever play my game in English.

The whole town looks Terrific. It makes perfect sense having the Grunts living near, if not on, the Military Base; and the Base itself looks really good. Where did you get the space shuttle?

I like how you have the "meet and greet" parties, getting a chance to see which way the wind blows as far as relationships. When I finally start playing again I've got to give this a shot.

Looking forward to your next update.

Thank you very much :) I do love the meet and greets, in a town everyone is going to know eachother at least from passing. It makes no sense that you have no idea who's out there apart from your family. And I get a lot of autonomous friendships (or enemies, hehe) and it gives ACR a chance to see if there's sims that hit it off straight away.

You can find it on TS3, but it's free: http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/browse/category/sims2-objects-hooddecorations

It's on page 5.
